This bite-sized book is inspired by Alan Kurdi, the three- year-old Syrian boy whose body washed up on the shore of Turkey in 2015. It is written as a letter to the son from his father, on the night of the precarious sea-crossing to escape their war-torn homeland.

5. How to be a Good Creature by Sy Montgomery

The author is a naturalist. He observes the idiosyncrasies of thirteen animals while comparing and contrasting with people. The analysis comes down to how to be a good creature in the world.
